In which the Democratic party of the State of Washington disenfranchises me

Wow. Because the Washington state Dems have chosen to go with a caucus for selecting the presidential candidate instead of doing it via ballot (with the Washington state primary election - a hollow fraud now, ignored by both parties), I am now

OFFICIALLY DISENFRANCHISED and unable to participate in the primary presidential elections in the United States. If you're not in the military, or going to church on Saturday, or disabled, they won't give you a waiver.

I would have to fly to the United States to physically participate.

I am furious. I will never give the Washington State Democrats another penny of my money.

PS: My cold has moved into my chest, and I wasn't having a fever again this afternoon - the office was for some reason at 26 degrees (85 or so for the 'merkins).

Au contraire- you can still participate in the primary, it just won't mean a damn thing. I believe, though, that there is a primary or caucus for Americans abroad- check with the local embassy, as they should be able to give you the relevant information.

For that matter, I plan on going to the caucus, not that it'll mean a damn thing, since the nomination will probably be all but a done deal by then anyway.

Democrats are just Republicans in sneakers. Milk and cookies for welfare moms, ridiculously empty promises and a soundtrack of soft rock. They exist to put out the fires of change, to settle us down. Yes, I hold my nose and vote, but my nausea rises with every election. Patty Murray probably exemplifies Washington Democrats best/worst of all for me, because her hideously weak speech at a labor convention is etched in my memory. She pulled her hideous "just a little housewifey girlie mommy" routine, stood on tiptoe (or looked like it) and whined plaintively at the crowd, after telling them they'd been sold out once again, "we rilly rilly tried, and NEXT year, with your help..." Sure ya did, honey. Check, cash, or credit card?

The entire political system is corrupt. It's hard to face. I hate it.

I really have come to believe that the Democrats are in the business of getting another Bush elected.

However, I wonder if you would like to talk to my US-expat friend pellegrina about this? She was recently musing about options for participating in the elections despite being based here, perhaps you two might have useful information to exchange? I'm happy to introduce if you think it's worthwhile, but won't if you don't, no offence taken.

The Dems lost my money when they joined the GOP in the lawsuit to toss out the blanket primary. Coming from a hardcore machine state, I loved being able to pick the candidates that best met the needs of my community whatever their affiliation (or lack there of). I had a friend on Orcas who had never voted GOP in the national elections, but often crossed over for offices like county commissioner.

That said, I still give money to back specific candidates or issues.

Yeah, I do. :-) But for some reason I do hear something like that as a shorthand for Americans out here and it makes me laugh.
