It's late, and it's raining hard. As we left the club, it was coming down hard enough to run between the roots of my hair in rivulets and start puddling in my shoes. During the tea party, it rained enough that we spent most of the afternoon huddling under a tarp (and stuffing ourselves with yummy food, photos to follow) and did not play croquet one bit (sad, though I had a good afternoon). The upshot is there will be no kayaking tomorrow, though since we're going to see the closing night of "The Irresistible Rise of Arturo Ui" with Eileen and friend tomorrow it's probably just as well that we won't be heading to the peninsula.

Review of tonight's play will come tomorrow, plus brief recap of nightcap - there will be plenty of time to type after I get nine hours and [livejournal.com profile] shadowdaddy makes me crepes.

The good news is that the basement floor is pretty darn clean right now.

The bad news is that all the water that ran across it (now mostly wiped up) appears to have seeped out of the wall on the east side of the house. Boo! I'm sure glad that we weren't trying to rent it out as a separate apartment.

The bad news list could actually go on and on but suffice it to say that I think that we'll be looking for a contractor to fix it and, based on the condition of the loveseat and carpet, I think it's not a completely new situation.

I really hope the roof holds up through the next couple of days. We have got to get it replaced quickly - it seems to have gone downhill this summer. This must be the ever ironic Joys of Homeownership I keep hearing about.

Someone posted a pissy comment in a friend's blog saying she was sick of his political rants, and why didn't he just post "I fucking hate George Bush!" every day instead of wasting her friends' list space (and somehow insulting her mother by pointing out that the President is dumb) by going off on how the president of the United States is an assmunch. So, in her honor, here's my somewhat more subtle "I fucking hate George Bush!" post - the same message, but with less volume.

I donated money to the Kerry campaign today. Yay me! I figure, if you want to say something, say it with money. I know my paltry contribution is mere pennies compared to what the fat cats were ponying up in Medina last week. However, this is absolutely the wrong election to think that doing nothing is the best course of action just because you don't have a few thou to throw around. Why don't you donate too? (Sorry, Brits, apparently they don't like money from outside of the US ... but surely there's someplace you can send money to, like maybe Moveon.org, if you feel very passionate about this issue.)

I'll now step off of my soapbox.

As a humorous aside: I came to the conclusion today that a purchase of a Hitachi Magic Wand is a must ... because the knots in my back are now so intense that [livejournal.com profile] shadowdaddy is getting hand cramps trying to work them out. So pathetic, I know, that this would be the thing that would make me really lust after having one ... a tensed-up back!

We saw a play again tonight, "The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui." It was great, and it's actually kind of sad that it was closing night as I won't be able to recommend it to anyone. However, given that it was sold out the last four nights, it seems that word had decidedly gotten out. And, I'm pleased to say, it washed the dirty flavor of "The Singing Forest" out of my mouth, which had little to recommend it other than full frontal (and back-tal) male nudity (and from the hottest actor in the cast, mmmrowr!). Well, actually, there were other things that were good about it, but since one of those things was not the plot, I can't really be positive about the production. Bertolt Brecht vs Craig Lucas: the dead guy leaves the living bruised and bleeding on the floor, and I was glad to have seen the battle.

Oddly enough, I started having some kind of weird anxiety issues before I went to the show, the same as I experienced Friday night at the party. What is going on with me? I hope this goes away.

This week will be busy. Lemme know if you want to come to any of these things:
Monday: Silent Movie Monday at the Paramount, this time Valentino in "The Sheik" and "Son of the Sheik."
Tuesday: Pilates at 6:15, Ethiopian food at Mesob at 7:30.
Wednesday: Burlesque Troop The Atomic Bombshells at the Mirabeau room
Thursday: some kind of work event, hopefully I'll be able to do some Puerto Rico in the evening. UPDATE: never mind, there's a neighborhood meeting that night I'll be doing instead.
Friday: leave work early and go to Long Beach. The Old Sou'wester and The Theater of Magic ("You've got the power!") are waiting for me!
